Huge Blow: Mets report that He is out of the squad for Some weeks

In the coming week to ten days, we’ll find out if there’s a chance that Kodai Senga could play a role for the Mets in the postseason.

New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga falls to the floor and grabs his left leg. Senga is checked on by trainers and comes out of the game during the sixth inning against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field, Friday, July 26, 2024, in Queens, NY.

Senga hasn’t pitched in a standing position since he suffered a severe left calf strain during his only game of the season on July 26.

Although he has managed to keep his arm moving over the past three weeks, he hasn’t done so while standing on both feet.

The Mets are hopeful that their 2023 ace will be able to resume regular throwing sessions without any restrictions within the next week to ten days, according to president of baseball operations David Stearns.

Senga was injured during his first start of 2024, when he fell to the ground and grabbed his left leg after a play against the Atlanta Braves on July 26, 2024, at Citi Field.

Currently on the 60-day injured list and not eligible to return until the end of September, Senga’s potential return is still a possibility if the Mets make a playoff run.

Stearns mentioned that the likelihood of Senga’s return will only be clearer once he starts throwing while standing.

Initially, Senga was the clear ace of the team but made his debut only in July due to a right shoulder capsule strain and subsequent rehab setbacks. In his only appearance, he struck out nine in 5 ⅓ innings but had to leave the game after suffering a painful injury on a pop-up.

The Mets have yet to determine the exact cause of Senga’s calf strain, describing it simply as an unusual injury for a pitcher.
