Latest: Blockbuster trade proposal send Giants super talent to division rival

Blake Snell has exceeded the San Francisco Giants’ expectations. Despite missing all of spring training due to holding out in free agency, Snell has been exceptional. In his last start before the July 30 All-Star break, he struck out 15 batters in a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rockies. Following that, Snell recorded his first career no-hitter with 11 strikeouts against the Cincinnati Reds.

With Snell’s outstanding performance, the hope is that he can propel the team into a playoff spot. However, Snell is likely to enter free agency by declining his $30 million player option for the 2025 season, potentially leading to a lucrative free agent deal. If this happens, the Giants could face the risk of losing Snell.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post suggests that the San Diego Padres, where Snell played for the previous three seasons, might be interested in a reunion.

“The Padres love Blake Snell and could be in the running for him this winter,” Heyman writes. “He’s almost certain to decline his $30M player option (one rival GM mentioned it would take a ‘catastrophic injury’ for him to exercise it).”

Giants could lose out on Blake Snell to division rival this winter

The Padres allowed Snell to enter free agency last offseason. Could they be in the running to reunite with him? Based on what Heyman is saying, the answer is yes.

Heyman also mentions that the Padres were contacted by the Giants about acquiring Snell before the trade deadline. Another team that showed interest? The rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Could the Dodgers make a run at Snell this upcoming winter?
