The Texas Longhorns are considered strong contenders for the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoffs in 2024, largely due to their quarterback.
Quinn Ewers, the top recruit of the 2022 class, has consistently proven his worth since joining the team in Austin.
Ewers is a key player in a formidable Texas roster, but the Longhorns face several significant challenges in 2024 to secure a spot in the CFP. One major hurdle is a Week 12 game against the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station.
This will be the first encounter between the two schools, both now part of the SEC, since 2011.
When ESPN’s Ryan McGee asked Ewers about the anticipated atmosphere (via On3), he described it as “Unreal”.
“Especially being there, too. I’m excited for that one,” Ewers continued. “It’s been 12 years, I think, now. That place is gonna be rowdy.”
The Texas A&M versus Texas rivalry, played annually from 1915 until 2011 when the Aggies joined the SEC, is a matchup that can divide the state. However, according to Ewers, it’s a game both fanbases should anticipate.
“I hate to say it, but I got a couple of buddies that go there,” he told ESPN. “They’re pretty excited about it, too. It’s gonna be an unbelievable atmosphere, especially being back on that Thanksgiving weekend.”
In his sophomore season, Ewers threw for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. Historically, Texas leads the series with a 76-37-5 record against Texas A&M.
