The New York Mets have significantly improved after a challenging start to the 2024 season.
At one point, the team was over 10 games under .500, but they’ve turned their season around and now have a record of 61-57, placing them just one game shy of a National League Wild Card spot. The Mets made some key acquisitions before the trade deadline and now have a genuine chance to contend for a playoff berth.
While the Mets have been strong this year, they are expected to be even more competitive in 2025. Their payroll is set to become more manageable, and there’s speculation that they might return to their high-spending ways in the upcoming offseason.
New York has already been linked to several high-profile players, with New York Yankees star Juan Soto being the most notable. According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, the Mets are likely to compete with the Yankees for Soto.
“Juan Soto has been a game-changer for the Yankees this season and is expected to finish in the top five of the American League MVP voting,” Bowden stated. “He’s projected to sign a contract worth over half a billion dollars, and both New York teams are anticipated to vie for his services.”
It’s frequently mentioned that the Mets will be in the mix for Soto, which isn’t surprising given his elite status and success in New York. He would be a prime target for the Mets.
