Red Sox Send Triston Casas To White Sox For Ace In Blockbuster Trade

It’s well-known that the Boston Red Sox are actively seeking several starting pitchers this offseason, both through free agency and trades. Among their potential trade targets, Garret Crochet of the Chicago White Sox has garnered the most interest from teams. Crochet’s trade market has been a topic of speculation for a while, with some MLB insiders indicating that the White Sox’s asking price is steadily increasing. Given that the Red Sox have four top prospects that both the front office and fans are reluctant to part with, what might a trade for Crochet entail?

Triston Casas said he didn't receive an 'enticing' from Red Sox

“Based on what the White Sox are saying, I think a package of (Triston) Casas, (Wilyer) Abreu and Connor Wong probably gets close to landing Crochet,” wrote Jim Bowden of The Athletic. “The Red Sox could then replace Abreu with prospect Roman Anthony in right field, replace Connor Wong with Kyle Teal at catcher, move (Rafael) Devers to first base and sign either Alex Bergman or Wily Adames in free agency.”

Triston Casas, who was once ranked the Red Sox’s top prospect, made his debut in September 2022. Since then, the 24-year-old has posted a .250/.357/.473 line with an .830 OPS (125 OPS+) over 222 games. Trading Casas would be a controversial move, as he has quickly gained popularity among fans for his bold personality, distinctive playing style, and impressive power and composure at the plate. The White Sox have reportedly set a high asking price for Garret Crochet, and if the Red Sox are unwilling to trade one of their four highly regarded prospects, it could lead to a difficult decision about the future of this homegrown slugger, who is under team control until 2029.
